On Friday I got my walking papers from my job. I was "terminated", "let go". For what I am really not sure, but praise Jesus I document everything. I wasn't the only one, she let go of half the office, no severance, nothing, but hopefully my last check with direct deposit itself on Wednesday. I think I know what did it for sure, but it was way too long of a story that probably over the next couple of weeks I will be able to discuss here on this blog, after all I should have a ton of time on my hands right? Oh Well!!! There is a special place in Hell for people who fire folks the Friday before Thanksgiving.
Not all hope is lost though, I have two interviews lined up, and I have applied to about 40 or 50 jobs since Friday. I also have a list of companies in my field that I plan to check and see if they are hiring, like at least 30 or 40. I should be set application wise really soon. I also have an interview tomorrow and the following Monday. I hope that at least one of those companies calls me back. The good thing about living in a major city is, there is at least some hope of getting a job somewhere. Next week I plan to roll into DISD and some other school districts needing subs, which at this time of the year is kind of limited, but hey it is something. I will also be trying to apply at the local Borders and Barnes and Noble to see if I can get something part time to ensure Christmas isn't interrupted. I also went Ghettoqueeshah and applied for unemployment benefits. I have never used them, I should be able to get them right? I hope I can even get them. I am glad my husband makes enough money to cover bills with some left over, but I hate being in this situation. Oh Well, something will come up right? Maybe this is the time to reinvent myself, do things around the house that need to get done. Start my dream business. Or just crawl into a corner and cry. I can't decide.

That sucks. That takes a real witch to let folks go with not severance right before the holidays. I'm glad you already have some prospects lined up. Go on and get those unemployment checks- they owe it to you. I know you'll bounce back!
I cannot believe that!! That totally sucks, but it sounds like it is a good thing you aren't working there anymore. Doen't sound like it was an employee friendly place, letting folks go like that before the holiday. You will be moving on to bigger and better things.
As for unemployment, get the checks. You have basically paid into it, so now that you are able to get it, go for it. It seems like you won't have to receive it for long, since you already have prospects. You may even have something before you even receive an unemployment check.
Good luck!! I know you will find something soon!!
Oh, I'm sorry, that's a bad situation and a worse company...
I'm also sorry because the picture that you've choosen to introduce the message made me laught at first, its quite a funny way to fire your employees.
I think you've done the correct movements: you've got in contact with a lot of companies, and you've two interviews soon so... don't worry, everything goes the right way.
Pleased yo read you and good luck!
Thank all your guys for your words of encouragement :)

Town Crier:
I would love to read your blog, but alas, I do not speak Spanish, maybe with this time off I can learn a new language and be able to read your blog :)
Hehe, don't worry, thanks for tryin', anyway.
I enjoy yours, really, so it doesn't matter... in fact, you're not missing an extraordinary blog, I can assure you that, hehe.
Sorry for my drunk English... and don't try to learn Spanish these days... cause we all hope you'll get a job soon!
I'm so sorry this happened to you before the beginning of the holiday season! You should collect your unemployment, if your state's like mine, the money comes from your ex-employer's unemployment insurance. All employers are required to have it, and you are entitled to it if you become unemployed through no fault of your own. Besides, when you do, your ex-employer's rates will increase for having a claim against it.
Best of luck in your search. Major cities are filled with jobs, so you'll recover quickly.
Like yan & pmf said... don't feel guilty about unemployment... you've been paying into it, i.e. the SUTA and FUTA codes on your paycheck.
Good luck on your job search... as for whether to start your dream home business, talk about it... especially with your husband, or if you have friends or family who have their own business. Many people aren't realistic or honest with themselves about prospects of success... just be careful. And in my experience, most people with 9-5 jobs tend to discourage stepping out : ( Maybe all that negativity is part of the reason why so many startup businesses fail.
Best of luck! : )
There is a positive, at least they fired you before you spent all your money on Christmas.
Last year I was told I had to leave on January 1st, after I spent a ton of money on gifts and stuff that I could have kept in savings.
Good Luck, I'll talk to ABC to see if we can help.
Jeff:
Thanks, but you guys don't have to do that, I am sure I will have a job soon. Even with this week being Thanksgiving I am getting quite a few hits. I got two interviews lined up for Mon. and Tues. of next week and three recruiters working with me asking me to hold on until after Thanksgiving, plus we can live on my husband's salary, it is just we will have a scaled back Christmas instead of having Christmas extravaganza like usual, where we spend way too much money.
Thanks for everyone's words of encouragement!!!!!
Well, either way, we made a post linking to Brokesista. If people want to donate they can.
We don't have a lot of funds ourselves, but we know all about what it's like to get screwed by your job during Christmastime, so maybe some of our readers will help and chip in.
You've been a great contributor on our site and we enjoy your blog. Its the least we can do.
After all, a good community supports itself and it's members.
Good Luck to you :)
This is a shame, I hope you find something soon.
I'm really sorry to hear that you lost your job and this close to the holiday season. I think you'll pull through quite nicely.
How did your interview this week go? I'm glad the leads are rolling in. I hope you find a much better job with more enlightened coworkers.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Yan:
It went ok, I am skeptical though, I am not going to be excited until I get an offer letter. Which she was hinting at, but I am still scared, I am not holding my breathe. If I get the job I can't wait to go shopping!!!!!!
Hope it works out for you. I know that's got to be hard but seriously, make the move to someplace or something you're genuinely happy doing. If that's staying home for awhile, trying to start a business, whatever it is, it'll work out.
I know how you feel. I was fired the week before my 20 anniversary, because "my family was more important to me than my job". I helped build the business from the ground up and had been there over 23 years. It is devastating but survivable. Good Luck
