Cultural Differences or Am I Stuck Up?

OK me and my husband thought it would be fun to go camping. A mini vacation we can take the dogs with and enjoy nature and life. There is one huge problem. We have vastly different views of camping. He grew up thinking and experiencing camping in a tent like this:

I grew up camping in a cabin with electricity, running water, beds, and a television like this:

He doesn't think that is camping, he likens it to staying at a hotel. Hello!?!?!? There is no room service in a cabin, nor spa, nor swimming pool, usually just a lake. How dare he claim I have never been camping. My parents have a cabin, and we would go down to the other house all the time. It was rough. Only two bedrooms and four people!!!! I had to alternate with my brother between the other room and the couch in the living area. Yeah we had cable and a phone. What if a bear mauls me, how else do I contact 911?

So now I am researching on the internet like a nerd on how to camp in a tent and places to go camping, but all I can seem to find is RV parks, per my husband no RV either. How do you cook up food without a stove? How do you watch TV in a tent? Where are the showers. I can't find a place to camp without an RV.

This camping in a tent thing is no joke.

This is too funny. For me, the point of camping is to experience nature without the interruptions and conveniences of every day life. Definitely no Tv when camping. And we cook over the campfire.

Though, I still get sad about not having running water.

ewwwwww bugs!

stuck up..nah..well if u can compromise to get a kick-ass tent that can at least protect agains most of the elements...take a nice bbq grill with u...and where u can opt to go somewhere with running water...especially during that special time of the month for us women...on 2nd thought maybe u should go on ur cycle without running water..that'll fix his wagon..lmao....seriously...i would ask for a higher end tent..taking some of my modern conveniences, and a location with a ranger and some sort of facilities...

Ha, ha, you'll be ok Siditty. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a girly man when it comes to any bug that's not a praying mantis or a spider, but I'm sure camping, real camping will be a fun and educational experience for you. Plus, there's no harm in learning survival skills.

Like CW said, see if you can get your husband to compromise and bring a charcoal grill with you.

Just for the record, I don't see anything fun about sleeping on the ground and taking a shit in the woods or whatever folks do when they're camping. Sorry.

I can experience nature lying in the whirlpool of a five star hotel room just as much as I can laying by the river! ahaha!

Nautre is in the mind!

I guess that's why nobody invites me camping, huh??

Well we are going to wait to start our camping excursion until March when it is a bit warmer. I will have plenty of time to brace myself for the harsh realities of the outdoors.

I like watching the Animal Planet... and when I was younger, I went to Camp Meehan... but it had a nice basketball court, and the section we could swim in the lake was sectioned off. But there were still bugs. About as close to camping as I'll get lmao! Your post was funny!

we used to go camping and hotelling all the time when I was young. Your family seemed to have combined the 2 experiences. I agree with your husband That is not camping! The whole point is to learn survival skills and get in touch with nature-and to 'rough' it out. It's cute that you 'think' you have been camping though. tee hee

Oh no!!!!!! I have been camping. I got in touch with nature, we went fishing, we walked nature trails, and we fought bugs. Isn't that enough of touching nature? LOL
