My A/C went out Friday, in 100 degree weather, so me and the family have been suffering with cheap box fans and ice to fight the heat. In Texas, every one has central A/C, if not you will die. Seriously. Box fans blow hot air really well, but me and the man decided to avoid the heat by shopping. So all was not lost. We provided the dogs and cat with tons of ice, water, and fans blowing hot air, and off we went.
Today was a great day. I was able to buy some hair products. If you read my other blog, you know about my product junkieism. I was also able to update my music collection. Well not really, I am still transferring items that I had on tape over to my ipod. I was able to get my "Until The End Of The World" soundtrack. The movie I was ok with, the soundtrack was AWESOME. It triggered my love of Nick Cave. One of my most favorite songs ever.Seriously. I promise to stop using "seriously" as a complete sentence. Seriously. Oops sorry.
I was totally in love with Nick Cave in 10th grade. I don't know why he looks kind of scary, but I still think his stuff is awesome. He is a very talented man, no matter if he looks scary or not.
Isn't this song awesome?
I was also able to buy a couple of books.
Then we proceeded to the movies. We went and saw the Dark Knight. It was pretty good. I am really losing myself, I haven't seen a indie or foreign film in a while. I need to rev up my Netflix to maintain my street cred.
Overall we managed to stay out until night time and it has cooled down, so the suffering is to a minimum. The high today was only 101 degrees. The temperature as I write this is only 85 degrees.

It has been very hot here too, we are sleeping on the bed without any covers, enjoying the weather.
what street are you talking about that gives "cred" for watching indie films?
As for your musical selection, I'm counting down till you Smiths and the Cure post. Given your recent selection they are inevitable...it's like you are "Goths" older sister.
brohammas,
We did the Smiths and Cure posts a long time ago. Back in the early to mid 90s, I wasn't called a goth. We were called New Wavers LOL. I did listen to Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus (yeah they got a post too), and Siouxsie and the Banshees (I think they got a post as well) :)
I know new wave...I pegged my pants and listened to Depeche Mode. I didn' say you were Goth...but Goth's big sister. You know, in a Foxy Brown gives us Jay-Z kind of way.
I know you had Violator and Music for the Masses didn't you?
I did too :)
We hit 102 here yesterday. I beat the heat with a margarita flavored sno-cone.
Our laundry room turns into a sauna as soon as the sun comes up, so no laundry got done. Again.
Depeche Mode rocks my socks. That is all.
I was a Cure, Morissey, and Souxie and the Banshees girl in HS. I don't know if they would be considered "Hardcore Goth" or not
Morrisey and the Cure aren't hard core, they are more like the gateway drug of Gothness.
Just because you listened doesnt mean you willbe goth, but few goths get there without trying the Cure first.
I avoided such tragedy by being distracted later on with Primus and Alice in chains..which somehow fell in line with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Beastie Boys...which opened the door for Goodie M.O.B. and OutKast...next thing ya know I'm showing up on blogs like this.
I listened to the Smiths, Morrisey of course, but I also listened to Black Flag, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Violent Femmes, Drop Nineteens, Superchunk, and of course Butthole Surfers, the Toadies, and MC 900 Ft Jesus, which led me to my love of hip hop. I wasn't strictly goth :)
I also listened to Pet Shop Boys and New Order.
I did love Jerry Was A Race Car Driver
If Sid is Goth's big sister, I must be her older, sexy aunt! In the 80's, we were called punkers (at least in North Texas), and caught The Smiths, New Order, Bauhaus, The Cure, and Siousxie and the Banshees shortly after they were formed. I also listened to The Dead Kennedys, The Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Buzzcocks, and TSOL. That was real punk, but the proto-Goth and punk all got glommed together in the same category. New wave to me is my early teens: Duran Duran, ABC, Heaven 17, Style Council, Spandau Ballet, Yazoo, etc. Now those were the "gateway drugs"! LOL!
By the way, even then, you were always something of a poseur until you had moved on from the Cure and Siouxsie to Jesus and Mary Chain, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Meat Beat Manifesto. Industrial is always the next step in teenage angst...
BTW, Sid, I missed the Sisters of Mercy post, but I just heard "This Corrosion" this afternoon...damn, that's a good song!
Oh, I forgot. Sid, please tell me you have the new Nick Cave CD, "Dig, Lazarus, Dig". It is fantastic, almost approaching the greatness of my favourite Nick Cave CD, "Murder Ballads". Also, if you haven't, check out the film "The Proposition", which Cave both scored and wrote the screenplay for. It has a great cast (Ray Winstone, Guy Pearce, Emily Watson) and terrific performances, but Cave's literate screenplay and compelling score is what holds it together...

Woo Hoo New Order and Joy Division, a must have :)
We were so cool Winnowill :)
You know I got my Meat Beat Manifesto. I got all 18 gazillion versions of asbestos lead asbestos LOL
I LOVED SKINNY PUPPY and TSOL. I listen almost exclusively to only six or seven channels on my satellite radio. Left of Center, First Wave (80s new wave, alt, and goth), and Punk are some of my favs. I also listen to hip hop, old school and new; and the classical soul and motown. I also rock NPR LOL I lost my Heaven 17 cd, and I am so sad. I LOVED TEMPTATION. I just saw the video for the 1st time today on youtube, it has an IR spin to it dang!!!!!
Of course "Come Live With Me" kind of scared me, it had a pedophile feel to it.
The Proposition is an awesome movie. I tried to show it to my father who loves Westerns, but he wasn't having any of it. He was freaked out at the concept of an Australian Western, even though he loved The Man From Snowy River.
I need to check out the new Nick Cave. He is so dreamy in a lurch kind of way LOL
Oh and who can forget LET ME GO.....I LOVE THAT SONG
LoL! Sid, I think if you peruse the Heaven 17 video catalogue, you'll see a number of sistas pop up. BW/WM IR was all the rage in early 80's British pop videos!
Of course, we listen to the same satellite radio stations, except I'll also add Lithium (grunge and 90's alternative) and Alt Nation (although there's sometimes too much emo and not enough British indie). But I must start my day with NPR. Morning Edition, Diane Rehm and Fresh Air are how I get myself right in the a.m.!
Oh and this reminds me. I had a crush on a guy in high school who looked like Martin Gore from Depeche Mode
Why the British guys got love for the sistas? Why not the American guys LOL
You won't catch me complaining, Sid. British men are the hottest, specifically Scottish men. I love "American Boys", to quote Estelle, but there's something about those UK accents that automatically elevates the level of sexy. Ummm...visions of Gerard Butler, Ewan McGregor, Kevin McKidd and Henry Ian-Cusick are dancing in my head...
I loved Depeche Mode!!!"Personal Jesus", "Enjoy the Silence" and "It's No Good" are playing in my head now. But then I discovered Nine Inch Nails and fell hard for Trent Reznor. "March of the Pigs" and "Closer" are my favorite tracks. He has been called the "King of the Industrial music genre". I know that some Industrial purists have called him as a commercialized sell-out, but I still think he's great.

I married a Brit and the accent is some of what lured me...:-)
@ starkitty50,
Damn! Trent Reznor makes me have to fan myself! He is hella sexy. And even better, he appreciates the sistas! Check out this pic (a couple of years old, but I've heard they're still together):

Just ignore the fact that the man who sang "Closer", "March of the Pigs" and "The Perfect Drug" is at...Epcot Center! Goddess, how did that happen?

Yes, she is his back up singer as well and some stories I've heard say that she is his wife, common-law or in the traditional/mainstream sense. Epcot Center??? That is weird-- way too wholesome for him :-)
