As I have revealed on this blog before, sometimes I get a bit militant. My blog posts of late have been a bit negative and I am becoming a bigger meanie than usual. I need to stop kicking ass first and taking names later. I am also going to try to stick to my New Years resolution of trying to hear other people's side and not try to be so judgemental. The Black Republican post I will admit is judgemental. So I am going to try really hard to stay positive for the next few blog posts. No posts about racism or politics, as with the upcoming election I think I will be needing a break from politics and race before long.
I am going to try to stay positive in hopes I might curtail my need to watch "Roots" so I can get mad and then look at my husband as if he is the single cause for all racism in America. My husband should be grateful I am doing this :)
I need to learn I can't change the world, and I can't change people's minds. I can only control my own. Being a control freak is tiring sometimes. I need to accept things as they are and sometimes just sit back and watch.

You cannot control the people or the world, but you can change it.
Never stop trying to change the world.
AH i have to get round to writing to you about that miracle...hmmm:-)
Yeh i was just about to agree with Brohammas...I am always trying to change the world. One person at a time:-D NEVER STOP! and who says you haven't changed the world already with this blog? Think of the butterfly effect:
You wanna know how i found your blog ?
1) I got a Jheri Curl and was upset because my hairdresser lied to me and said it was a natural hairstyle, so i typed in Jheri Curl and natural hair style and got you hair blog.
2) Read a post on that blog and watched funny video's with eddie murphy made me laugh so hard i was happy for the rest of that day. My mum was happy i was happy and went to work with a smile on her face.--therefore influencing her life.
3) Found the name of your other blog intriguing. Read a few posts and was shocked that there was another black person out there with the same opinions as me. :-P (i know there are others but at the time i was in my own bubble)
4) I gained more confidence to write stuff on my blog and share it. Found out my uni friends had blogs and we became closer friends, and by my blog writing even encouraged a friend in Chicago to start blog writing.
Small things have a huge impact...who knows where the paths leads :-)......
HOWEVER if i saw THIS:
Siditty: Pleasantly Polite, Calm, & Black Since 1976
I would not have been intrigued, the other name made me laugh...
I think u are pleasent polite and calm anyway and i don't even know you !!! :-P
Never stop trying to change the world
Don't worry I am just on break to keep myself from acting a fool :)

Suesue,
I am waiting for that miracle story. You know I have blogger ADD, I post an entry every 20 seconds :)
I love how you found my blog. Jheri Curl? Wow and you found the Naturally Kinky blog before this one. Most people it is the other way around :)
I am glad you found confidence to blog about your life just coming to this blog :) Nice to know people actually read and like it.
Pleasantly Polite, Calm & Black Since 1976 ?
That's almost as funny as "Reppin' Cathedral Kindergarten Class of 81".
Siditty: Pleasantly Polite, Calm, & Black Since 1976
just noticed the new headline and it made me laugh.
thanks.
I know how you feel, lately after a few "incidents" with people in my hall I've been going militant like Jekyll and Hyde. Like I'm just waiting for someone to fuck up so I can stomp on them with my Hot Topic boots in the name of JUSTICE. I also caught myself going on a long soliloquy about equal rights & women one day to someone who was looking at me like "Wtf?" I didn't even know her...
It's true that you should never stop changing the world of course, even if you do have to pull in the reigns, so to speak, you know what I mean? Before you go chokeslam some fools or anything.
And...wow I'm slow, I just noticed that you DID change your header to "Pleasantly Polite..." Bahahaha! Oh man...
Pleasantly Polite, Calm & Black Since 1976 ?

Don't hate, I set Cathedral off back in '81.
Plus I am so polite and calm, haven't you seen it for yourself on this blog :)

Exactly. You have to take a step back and breathe, otherwise when you go postal off on someone, you might scare some folks off.
The title surprised me, but then I thought it was funny. I guess not everyone is going to agree with you and it's more interesting when there are differences of opinion anyway. I don't get arguing with someone on their blog--it's your opinion and your voice. Not all people have to like it, but you have to agree to disagree, without being disagreeable. Fact is fact, but opinions vary. People need to be exposed to diverse ways of thinking. Blogs like yours and C-1s give a platform for these topics that you couldn't have with someone in "face-to-face" everyday life, because it would turn ugly rather quickly. Thanks!!!
If I may, I rather like you as you are. I believe I found you by lurking on C-1's site for a good while, but I never bothered to reply to your blog until I saw you over at ABC. Although we may not always agree, it's refreshing to be able to have honest and open discourse about all manner of things. I wonder, sometimes, if I'm not talking to a slightly older (and infinitely wiser) version of myself.
We all need pause for reflection and maybe to balance out our various karmas from time to time. I know I've been a bad Buddhist lately. I had someone tell me that I remind them of Huey in/on "The Boondocks" and I'm not sure if I should be offended or flattered. Maybe this is what happens when you spend most of your life sitting on what you really think: you go through a militant phase when you can't take it much more.
I find myself having to rethink how I say things, especially if I'm taken the wrong way or you point out something in my argument that I hadn't considered. Considering my college town (Reno) is a lot less diverse than my hometown of Oakland or my adopted home of Las Vegas, sometimes this is the most interaction I get with people like me. Same thing for people like Grata, Diosa Negra, Suesue, and the others. Don't get me wrong, I talk to my mother a lot, but there's a generational undercurrent at work at times during our discussions.
I think "pleasantly polite" will work for you. People can't get mad at a lot of things when they're said politely, even if it pisses them off.
P.S: Non-offensive and ultra-positive post suggestion: puppies (or any other cute baby animal).
Siditty. sorry for my lack of comments lately, but i have been here :)
first of all, what are you apologizing for ? You express your opinions honestly and with thought. This is a blog, and very good one. And you know what ? you do provoke good discussions and make people out there think about things, like me for example. You often acknowledge and challenge what you see as your own prejudices... as 'militant' as you might get, you never come off as blindly angry or hateful.
you do have influence in the world, and don't think you don't.
Just keep being you.

Thank you :) It is very true that things would get ugly in face-to-face conversations in regards to some of our topics, but I was getting ugly in comment sections. That isn't nice, and I need to understand not everyone sees the world from my warped point of view and learn to bite my tongue, and quit holding grudges with people, even if they are nasty and condescending to me.

Thank you very much :) I don't know if I am a wiser person, maybe more crazy than you are :)
I miss ABC's blog, and I always am grateful for C1s blog, it was the first blog I ever truly thought to post a comment on, I loved it. Not to mention he is my official cyber crush because I love his blogs.

That is exactly where I am at.

I took your advice.
Yes, your black republican post did offend me, because I am African-American and VERY conservative. However, this is your personal site, and the people who are offended by your site do not have to visit. I always appreciate your honesty, even when it pisses me off...
By the way, I think your awesome.
I don't even know why you ever had Angry as part of your title anyway, you've never struck me as an angry person ever.

Aaaawwwww shucks, thank you SuperJV. That made my day!
I do feel I do come off as angry or a bit hateful, and I am trying to curb that, not so much in my posts. I sometimes actually sit back and think about those, but my replies to comments, or letting random internet people rub me the wrong way. I need to work on that.

C1,
You have seen some angry comments I have made where I felt I was a bit flippant and condescending to those with differing opinions. I need to keep my southern hospitality going, even in the cyberworld.
I've commented in your blog before and I just saw this headline and laughed at it a bit.
That being said, not everyone is going to agree with you. It is okay to have your opinion and it's okay to want to change the world. I think all of us want to change it for the better. It's good that you realize that there are so many injustices in the world and want to change a person's way of thinking. That also being said, not everyone is going to agree with you but you can learn from their opinions as well. It's all a learning experience in my eyes.
New blog title that you took down was funny. For some reason I couldn't post a comment on your blog yesterday :(
You'd locked me out right?
I love the Sid as she is so keep her as is :)
Re: Changing the world: I believe you're already doing so and I concur with everyone else that said that you should never stop trying. Trust me, you're making an impact and we love you for that.
