Two Interesting Movies

American Violet, based upon a true story that happened here in Texas.

The Blacklist, Serena Williams:

I know we typically aren't fans of Chris Rock here, but this clip is genius:

Nice videos. I'll definately be on the look out for the movie. Chris Rock made a whole load of sense.

The American Violet clip gave me chills. I can't wait to see it even though it has the exact same effect on me as say Roots.

I for one don't hate Chris Rock. Some of his humor is questionable but many times he is extremely insightful like this video shows.

Sid,

I just followed the videos to You Tube and saw Russell Simmons. What happened to his marriage to Kimora? That looked like a business transaction.

Hey Siddity, how are you and the lil one doing? It's been a while since I've been over here, and I hope all is well.

The Black List is a wonderful documentary. It just goes to show how diverse we are as a people. And even in that, we share so much of the same experiences.

Why do peeps hate Chris Rock? He's always brilliant, introspective about relationships between black people and more importantly a truth-teller. He's way smarter than the average black comic. The BL1 has been on HBO for a while now.

The first clip is a must see.

I liked what Serena Williams said. It was really nice and honest. However, as an north east African it annoyed the living shit out me when she said she just went to "Africa". Not a country, just Africa. For the love of God, when will African Americans understand that Africa is the multicultural/ethnically diverse/linguistically diverse/religously diverse place!

I mean Africa expands from this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2011/2331632498_7317af5fcd.jpg?v=0 ,to this: http://www.dignubia.org/maps/timeline/img/c0640-nubian-bishop.jpg , to this: http://web.uct.ac.za/depts/afrlang/resource/san.jpg !

Ok, I'm sorry for my rant, but this is a concept that really no one is bothering to understand. all of the African Americans I've either had an "Ew! Africa! Huts" attitude or "Wow! Africa! Dashikis!" sort of atitude. It's really unnerving.

The title "Sleeping With Your colonizer" says it all about wm and bw relationships and the issues around them.

The American Violet trailer just brought tears to my eyes. I usually don't react that way to movie trailers. lol I want to see it. I wish EVERYONE would watch it. These really really are the kind of movies that are desperately needed in movie theaters.

It is now my business to make sure I see American Violet!

I flipped through The Black List in Barnes and Noble last year. The only reason I picked it up was because the Guns and Roses guy was on cover and I was wondering why Howard Stern was in a book called the BLACK List...lol

check out Medicine for Melancholy
here's the link:http://www.strikeanywherefilms.com/

i haven't seen it yet. i lived in San Francisco for about eight years. When I would run into other Black folks we would joke about being number 8 or 12 of the 100 (or so it seemed) Folks living in San Francisco. That was four years ago and I believe we were 8% of the city's population. I now live in Oakland for a lot of reasons mostly weather and money and actual diversity on all fronts. A friend told me about this flick and it looks like it'll be pretty good.

Hi Siddity I'm very new here and was brought here by one of my friends blog and I find it interesting. I'm a black female college student who attends an HBCU so maybe my way is kind of tainted. Or not since it's me. Anyway I've never been attracted personally to white guys as I have been to men of all other races. I like what I like I'm sorry if that may offend some of you. My current is black and I've been involved with Egyptian and Mexican(Yes he's from Mexico). As for white guys I've never really been into them and the only time one came up to me I was 15 years old and he was like way older than me then kept following me around the store. So I might be just traumatized. Anyway don't get me wrong if the right guy came along I would probably be with him regardless of what color he is but right now personally I don't see myself marrying a white man. Last I will be sending your blog to my friend whose in an IR relationship with a white guy. They are so cute together. :)

@Siddity: No I take that back. I'm a Johnny Depp and Criss Angel fanatic. The few white guys I am attracted to all have dark hair and dark eyes. Then again I love dark hair and eyes on all men. :)
