According To Some-How I Got Into College

::Siditty makes a phone call to the admissions office for the college she applied to to check on the status of her application::

Siditty: Hello, I would like to check on the status application to your college.

College Administrator: Can I get your name?

Siditty: It's Siditty Angry And Black Since 1976

College Administrator: Social Security Number

Siditty: 777-XX-9311

College Administrator: Oh, your in, don't worry about it.

Siditty: What!?!?!??!?! I got in, that's great!!!!!!! What was it? My grades? My SAT score? My extracurricular activities?

College Administrator: Oh no, that doesn't matter. You could have all F's you would have gotten in.

Siditty: But how is that? I am not a legacy like so many of your other students? My parents attended different colleges.

College Administrator: Your parent's went to college? Seriously? Like community college huh?

Siditty: No like traditional colleges that offer four year degrees and master programs.

College Administrator: Wow that is crazy. They didn't even have Affirmative Action back then.

Siditty: What does that mean? So how did I get in?

College Administrator: Oh honey, it is because you are black, automatic admission. Your blackness alone is sufficient to get you into college.

Siditty: Really, so you mean I studied and did all that extracurricular shit for nothing? Damn.

College Administrator: ::laughing:: Oh lord, they made you believe you had to actually work or something to get into college? How silly your school was. Black just gets in, no matter what. We just took Pookie from the hood the other day. He has a 1.5 GPA and smokes crack daily. We think it is amazing any of you negroes can actually fill out an application.

Siditty: Wow

College Administrator: Now just go to the registrar's office and sign up for classes. Also stop by the financial aid office for your "go to college free because I am black and nothing else" scholarship.

Siditty: OK Thanks!!!!!!!

College Administrator: Oh be sure to tell your academic advisor to inform all your instructors to do an automative curve for all your grades. You get a complimentary "black curve" so you can appear to have a higher GPA.

Hey, whatever helps them sleep at night....

Some white people find so much comfort in their supposed "superiority" that they must find anything they can to diminish the accomplishments of anyone who is not white.

The era of total white domination is coming to an end, and whites are painfully aware of that. They are sadly watching their privilege seep through their hands. Some whites will be able to handle this, but, in my opinion, the majority won't. Such is life...

White people are so funny when they think some of their white privileges are disappearing.LOL

Funny stuff.

Too bad it's considered the norm at some colleges/universities.

Siditty said...

What college or university is that? I want to you to name one college or university that allows admissions based upon skin color alone, without regards to GPA, SAT score, or high school experience?

Siditty said...

What college also gives a "black curve"?

You know the funniest thing about this assumption? Is that it only helps black people at the expense of everyone else. I especially face-palm when when other minorities (i.e latinos or asians) treat black students as the Affirmative Action cases, like they didn't ride in on the same boat. If you attend/attended a majority white school and you are not white, chances are Affirmative Action was a factor (notice: not THE factor) in you being admitted.

@ Mr. NoFace

I got the affirmative action speech from a Chinese international student. He told me another black female engineer that we would have guaranteed jobs because we are both black and female which is a diversity twofer. Apparently he drank the white supremacist Kool-Aid.

LOL Yeah Mr. Noface. I think the condescending notion that other minority groups have picked up is being placed on the racial hierachy that is not equal of blacks. So of course they think they have the right to feel that way from white supremacy.

Oddly, this is how some folks at my undergrad university thought I got in to! I'm always reminded that in debates about affirmative action, the fact that white women have benefited more than any single groups seems to be conveniently forgotten.

G,

Please, please, PLEASE tell me which colleges/universities you are speaking of. Man! Just think of all the time I wasted doing homework and participating in extracurricular activities back in high school. To hell with all this studying and the mountain of debt I'm building...I'll transfer to that 'get in and don't pay a cent because you black' school today! Thank goodness there's still time to warn my sisters. I wouldn't want them to strive for excellence if they doesn't have to.

This is the foolishness. Ppl around me have learned not to attempt to bring up that bogus a$s assumption, usually due to the vicious side eye I save particularly for this hot mess. "Diversity" admissions these days don't rely so much on race, as they do socio-economic level. I'm smart, but pretty broke. That's why I got into college. Emphasis on the smart.

G said...

Yes, I've heard of the Bakke case. Have you heard what kind of criminal activity that the other person involved has managed to get away with?

Michigan (or Michigan State) I believe still uses race quotas in their admissions process.

Oh, and Siditty, to answer your question about naming one college/university that does admissions based on skin color alone, I would suggest that you take a look at any major college/university that has either a football or basketball program in Divison IA.

I would think that somewhere along the line, those schools have done exactly that a few time in their existence.

I went to a mostly white-college in New England and most people thought that all minorities were there based solely on affirmative actions. I kid you not, some of those white kids who were admitted based solely on "their grades" could not identify which continent South Africa was located. Some did not even know who Rosa Parks was. Most of them got in because their parents could afford the tuition but want to be condescending to me and tell me that I got into a liberal arts college because I'm black. But the fact of the matter is, most White, Asian, Indian, and Hispanic people think that blacks are riding on the coat-tails of affirmative action without doing any work. Bitch please.

lewdie said...

Whites aren't the ones who are usually pushed aside in favor of "affirmative action recipients" especially in the top tier schools. Asians students are usually the ones who are affected. I was surprised by this info when I first read it but it just made me realize that the anger white people display at affirmative action is nothing more than self-righteous racial angst bullshit.

I knew a white male who had an SAT score about 300 points lower than mine tell me that he is glad that AA was in effect so "people like me" would have a chance.

Siditty said...

Yes, I've heard of the Bakke case. Have you heard what kind of criminal activity that the other person involved has managed to get away with? The Bakke case proved that college admissions couldn't be approved based upon race alone. You just proved my point. No college has a race only quota program. This case set precedent for that. You also might want to talk about the white AA programs that many HBCUs (which many white people find inferior regards to the program in question, simply because they are black use). My father's school was an HBCU and they admit many a white child on scholarship, provide financial aide, and actively seek out white students. But you will fall silent on that, or on how Affirmative Action benefits WHITE WOMEN, a protected class under AA.

Oh, and Siditty, to answer your question about naming one college/university that does admissions based on skin color alone, I would suggest that you take a look at any major college/university that has either a football or basketball program in Divison IA.
Again you prove my point. Hell most the folks of ANY race in any money making sport for a school will have a lower requirement, but again it isn't based upon race, it is based upon athletic ability. Or do you assume white athletes are smarter than black ones?

Now do you want to talk about the 100% race quotas for whites that took place at the majority of universities that made AA into existence? Or do you want to talk about how white women, a protected class under AA have benefited?

Siditty said...

Let's also discuss legacies that permit those whose parents and grandparents went to college certain advantages in admission?

We don't want to discuss that type of AA do we?

G said...

While the sarcasm that some people are directing at me is at the most, mildly amusing, please be assured that it doesn't bother me one bit.

Siditty, what point were you trying to make to begin with?

That AA is a good thing, or that its rotten to the core and should be purged?

BeautyinBaltimore said...

I hate it's assumed that we are somehow unable to make it without AA. Sid, we are going to here more of this as the demographics of this country changes and people like Sailor gain more fans.

I am TOTALLY feeling you on that! I am graduating from the University of Virginia in about two weeks. UVa a pretty white university- it is considered to be "Mr. Jefferson's University" (Thomas Jefferson "built" the university- using slave labor, of course). UVA also has a large population of students who are double legacies. Regardless of what anyone says, this makes it easier to get accepted to the university. I make it a point to bring this fact up whenever I hear anyone talk about supposed race-based AA cases on campus. In addition, the majority of the campus is made up of white women, so we can definitely see how AA policies have helped them more than anyone else. However, UVa is not all bad...we do have the highest black student graduation rate of all public universities.
This is because WE ARE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE, not because of anything the whites have done for us!!

From this post I can not tell whether you are for or against affirmative action, but AA hurts Pookie from the hood way more then it helps him. As currently constructed AA hurts most of the lower class minorities period, as it is set to protect the establishment. The whole reason for AA was to re-enfranchise black people after they had been disenfranchised for centuries by oppression. But over the decades what you actually see is a polarizing economic affect in the black population. The people who benefit from affirmative are not the Pookies or the kids with 2.0 or 2.5 GPAs from the hood who went to a very bad school systems, but it is the suburban one who went to a very good school system and definitely would not need it to begin with. What is sad about this is that the people who actually need affirmative action the most, most likely won't benefit from it at all. This creates a poverty cycle, as people don't have money to afford a good education in a good school system, and because of this lack of education they will remain poor and lack money, creating a poverty cycle that leaves people disenfranchised and is completely against what AA was meant for. People who argue against AA fail to realize that their is still inequality as perfect competition is a myth, because it requires perfect information, and that is not realistic period, but even equal access to information is not realistic because of a poverty cycle that has been created because of disenfranchising people for centuries. But of course as AA is current constructed it isn't really helping the cause either. That is my 2 cents.

I remember this white guy in high school told me not to worry about college because I was black and was clearly going to get in anyway. I had to remind him that most colleges are majority white, just looking at who is in college now it's a safer assumption that he'll be in college b/c he's white.

An indian guy told me the if I got into MIT and he didn't something was clearly wrong.

When I did get into to MIT, but turned it down for Yale, and turned out to be the #2 in our class. I hope he realized that the only thing wrong was him. (I'm not an asshole, but it's amazing what ppl believe/think they can say to you)

The biggest benefactor of AA is white women, but no one ever bitches and moans about them being a protected class under AA. The proof of this is even more telling. White women now outpace white men in obtaining degrees, that is true AA at work, but again no one complains why is that?

I was tired of hearing I got in with lower grades and test scores, when the reality for most blacks is we got in with the same, if not better scores than our white counterparts, and even if we excel and make it out in the real world, we will realistically make less than our white counterparts, but per white folks we are just getting freebies while innocent more deserving white people are pushed aside. I don't know how we determined these white folks were more deserving, but it is automatically assumed they are more deserving than any black person.

Didn't read all of the comments but this one is directed at Dani so sorry if it was already stated:

regarding the Bakke case, did you know that a whole bunch of whites got in ahead of Bakke with lower grades also? The school didn't want his ass. Admission into a college is not your right it is a privilege and beyond that, it is a business. They can essentially admit whomever the hell the want and guess what they give privilege to those who can pay the full tuition with everyone else falling to the wayside.

That is factually wrong. Colleges are not businesses, they are non profit organizations, that is why they don't pay taxes (even though the wealthier ones should since they operate like a business with a monopoly on a public good). Again you can argue that admissions to college is not a privilege but a right, as it has been under equal protections and due process. The pursuit of an education in order to secure a more stable life is a fundamental freedom, and to be denied so by a public or quasi-public institution (because of tax exemptions) is illegal.

I think that is so real. I went to the University of North Carolina White...excuse me Wilmington. I feel they especially love black people who come from broken homes or unfortunate circumstances, with disregard to grades, extra curricular activities or anything else. I know this for a fact, when it came down to me and a friend who both applied and she was accepted before I was and didn't even want to attend the university, but applied because her mother made her.
