Michael Jackson 1958-2009

This is an absolute shock to me. I am still amazed that this has actually happened. See for people my age, Michael Jackson is an ICON. He wasn't a strange man with bad plastic surgery. He wasn't the man who was inappropriate with children. This man was a true talent. This man was a history maker. Michael Jackson was the first black artist MTV would allow on their air waves. The album "Thriller", was monumental. It was rare to not know someone who didn't own that album. The Jackson Five were influential. This man literally had a career that spanned decades, and when I say it spanned decades, he was in mainstream media, on top of his game, actually charting, and selling out tours. There are few in this world who can say they could pull that off.

Michael, you will be missed, at least by this blogger.

It is a shocker. I mean the biggest pop icon of all time dying?? Still can't grasp that. This is truly an era closed shut. It's weird but sometimes I used to think of MJ as immortal. Probably because I was a huge fan of his. Hopefully Michael is in a better place now.

When I think of MJ, I will always, ALWAYS think of Thriller. That was my JAM! (I actually have the original phonograph record of it, white suit and all, lol). That, his Jackson 5 days, "Beat it","Billie Jean","Remember the Time", etc, etc and I'll continue to play them until the clock stops.

He will be missed.

I was a fan of Michael when that shit wasn't COOL (let some folks tell it) to be one. I don't give a damn what NOBODY says, NOBODY can top Michael and nobody ever WILL. He influence MULTIPLE generations. Who else can say they had hit after hit since the age of 11 years old? Nuff said. Michael was the TRUE King and always will be.

I'm with you Siditty! It's still quite a shock right now. I've been watching CNN all afternoon when it was first reported that he was in the hospital. Since his passing, everytime I look at the tv and see his name and the years it's like so surreal. Oddly tho this morning after Farrah's passing, I thought what would it feel like to lose a major entertainer/icon from my teen years, then hours later... I can't believe it. Despite controversies and issues, his music is what will last and can't be denied and his showmanship. Wow it's like I have to take a deep breath every so often.
RIP Michael & Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

he'll truly be missed, i'm young, but he will greatly missed by my generation too. We still love the songs he sang "ABC," all those kiddies songs, we loved them too. Thriller, I remember being afraid of the the music video and it giving me night mares. truly a remarkable artist and greatly missed...

Everyone knew that the myth had to continue;
First Ed McMahon,
Then Farrah,
Now Mike.
MIke?
Who knew that the third would be Mike?

Call me naive but I never thought Michael Jackson would die. At least not in my lifetime. He was and always will be musical royalty and he will never be forgotten. RIP King of Pop.

This is so sad. I know every channel is covering it now, and its all over the net, but for some reason I still don't believe it. I dunno it just feels like he should walk out that hospital any moment now and say it was all just a rumor. I feel the same way about Luther Vandross, its like I have not really come to terms with him being gone. He and Luther are very much ALIVE to me.

Even kids born today have to go through the Michael Jackson phase.

This is a loss that most of humanity will feel. I am trying to think of an artist that has touched so many lives. And I can't think of any.
RIP Michael.

Michael is and will forever be an icon regardless of what age you are or who you are. I can't even believe he's gone. Watching his classic videos like Thriller and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Beat it," no one performs like Mike. You can see that fire burning from within him.

Let us also not forget his amazing efforts and achievements in philanthropy, not to mention the worldliness of so many of his videos!

Rest In Peace Michael, Farrah, Ed McMahon, and Ed Thomas.

I didn't appreciate Michael when I should have. Now it's too late. I didn't truly value him for his worth when I could and should have. Now I am a regretful, but passionate fan. I've rediscovered the man who musically colored so many of my happy childhood summers.

His influence never dies. I was born in the 90s. Though I've taken detours and done stupid things against Michael, it was not until I got older that I could fully appreciate the genius and the angel that is Michael Joseph Jackson. He will be dearly missed. I will always remember you Michael.

I still have my 23 year old Thriller album. I remember coming home from school when I was in the 5th grade. My mom gave me a bag and when I opened it, It was Thriller. I screamed, ran, screamed. Kissed the album, screamed, stared at the album. I was Michael Jackson crazy. I was jealous when he took Brooke Shields to awards shows. I could not stand her. I was in love with MJ. My favorite album is Off The Wall. There will never be another. I have still not allowed myself to believe he is no longer with us. Not yet. I'll just hold on awhile.

I grew up listening to him like so many other people. He didn't get the respect he deserved and it's sad that his amazing career was overshadowed by rumors and the circus-like atmosphere created by the media of his personal issues. Michael will always be loved by his real fans and there are many all over the world who are in mourning.

Too damn sad.
Couldn't believe it when it broke yesterday, I collapsed on to my bed, tears falling so effortlessly.
I never thought I'd see the day.

'Another Part Of Me'(my fave song of his) is playing relentlessly in my head...
His music will live on forever.

Yes, there's been lots of controversy, but he's always been found not guilty and that's all we can go on.

I am still in shock. IT's like a big part of my childhood just died yesterday. I feel bad that these 90s babies will never have any idea of what it was like when music videos were an event, when everyone from the 80 year old lady down the street to the 5 year old on his way to school were all grooving to his song--they just will not even begin to understand. I am so sad because people like Mike, Prince and Madonna are the last of a certain kind of entertainer that we wo't ever see again. Everything else is a bland copy in comparison. May Micheal find the peace he was never able to have here.

Michael Jackson will truly be missed!

Anyone who missed his heyday during the Thriller era does not truly understand what a SUPERSTAR is about.
That level of fame has not been reach by any celebrity since Michael Jackson.

What does age have to do with appreciating an artist's work? I've seen little kids less than 5 crying over MJ. He has impacted people of all ages across the globe.

I just noticed something. Why do people say MJ had trouble with his blackness? The video chicks in most of his videos were visibly black. He may not have looked black completely, but he did apperciate sisters.....

FunkyStarkitty50 said...

That was totally uncalled for. It's not even funny.

@Funky

I'm serious. And he was a great humanitrian and included himself in black awards shows. He may have had identity issues, but I think it's a strech to say he hated his blackness.
