Pat Buchanan's reaction to Sonia Sotomayor is proof with Affirmative Action is needed, and Rachel Maddow is my girl crush. He said that at Princeton everyone graduates Cum Laude, so Sotomayor's grades don't matter. Sotomayor is considered the most experienced Supreme Court nominee in the last ONE HUNDRED YEARS, but to Pat she is just an unqualified Latina who rose up in her career on her race alone. Her education doesn't matter, her experience doesn't matter, all that matters to Pat is her skin color.
Pat also says the Republican party needs to quit pandering to hispanics and focus on the white vote. I guess as long as whites are the majority, minorities need not be included in the Republican party, and they don't count. We also need to protect the working class whites from "reverse discrimination" because I guess other working class minorities are at an advantage in his mind. Or the only working class is white people, and hispanics and blacks are poor, welfare folks. Whites also built this country all by themselves. Blacks had no role, asians had no role, and hispanics had no role in this country, therefore giving whites the right to exclude other races as they are more entitled to everything they receive based upon whiteness alone.
His racism astounds me, and what scares me is most white people think like him. He plays on white fears very well.

Siddity,
How do you know that most White people think like Pat Buchanan? 44% of Whites voted for President Obama, so I'm not sure if you just said that out of frustration or if you have a poll to back up your assertion.
I said it out of frustration and just because white folks voted for a black man, doesn't mean they can't be racist. They just chose to put their racism aside for other purposes that aligned with Obama or the Democratic party.
44% of Whites voted for President Obama,
There's Obama again, being referenced like he's the 'Black Friend'. Because they may have voted for him doesn't change their views on racial issues. Now, they don't need to say "I have many friends who are Black", they just need to say "I voted for Obama".
"44% of Whites voted for President Obama" including one older white gentleman who works with my father. When my dad asked this particular man why he voted for Barack Obama, he said "because Obama is the smartest nigger I know." Nice.
I heard he said some foul stuff recently, but what else is new. Personally, I think WWE should have a death match on pay per view which puts Pat Buchanan and Lou Dobbs against one another. The winner could be crowned the angriest white man in America. That way, they don't have to keep saying outrageous shit to try and outdo each other.
Ok so I just watched the entire clip.
Damn, white people are victims of discrimination? Who knew?!! Listen Siditty, we need to start a campaign on this blog and I'll do it on mine also.
We need to start registering more white people to vote. After all, their vote shouldn't count any less than ours. Hell I say we go all out and have the National Guard escort them into colleges and Universities all over the country.
Are you down?
Save your poll Sid.
I would not say the majority of white people think like Pat. I WOULD say most white conservatives do. I would say most white MEN of his generation think like that.
The real danger in Pat is that he has such a platform and for some reason is respected, meaning lots of young people who lean toward conservatism... which would and always has included me, are getting ideas and what they think of as political education from this man. People are forming opinions and ideas from his words, just like people form opinions and ideas from Barack or Sharpton's words. All of these media figures have access to a world and experience that these white people have no connection too, and so they listen to these people and assume they are reliable.
Now I am not saying Barack is not reliable, but he is a politician and like all will be subject to scrutiny and prone to pander.
We are at risk of a new generation of white people who feel aggrieved and the walls between us will become thicker... Except for Paul Wall, he will break those walls down single handedly (anyone who quotes me on that is dead meat).
This man is a joke. He went out with the cotton gin and the mint julep.
He would rather this country continue the way it's going rather than tapping into a wider talent/gene pool. How obtuse,short-sighted,arrogant and bigoted.
Oh by the way, Pat. This country was built by intelligent White men..standing on the bloody backs of Blacks, Native Americans and countless other disenfranchised people. I can't stand you.
Oh and way to bring up the Blacks being good at sports analogy. THAT'S not played
@dana111: You right I remember watching these white supremacists on TV saying they were voting for Obama. They had a confederate flag handing outside next to an Obama banner.
To the topic: Why in the world does Pat still be on the payroll at MSNBC? He's just gone to darn far now.
Pat Buchanan, thankfully, is an old man - his generation is dying out one by one. Just hope the younger generations don't think like him. No doubt - the man is a racist.
And thankfully, I cannot say that I know any White people like him (at least none that have shown me that side of themselves).
Who here actually takes that whack job seriously?
I stopped listening to him sometime in the 80's because he kept going further and further out until he made someone like Ralph Nader look normal.
One thing I can say about Pat is that at least he is honest with his racism. He says what alot of white people feel. I have to give him credit for it. I thank him for bringing the true republican agenda to the forefront. They want to take care of their own. Not including Michael Steele. You have alot of white people feeling like THEY built AMerica alone, THEY are entitled to be the only ones called real Americans and THEY deserve the fruits of everyone elses labor. I think alot of white people feel like even if they don't work as hard as everyone else, because they are white they should slide by. In reality alot of whites do get to slide by and excuses get made for them all the time. If they fail it's not their fault. They blame minorities, if they don't get into a certain college with mediocre grades and a minority with high marks get in, then it's unfair. Then they bash affirmative action. So caught up in their whiteness and their entitlement that they are blinded by common sense and decency. Look at what happened to this country in the past eight years. It went to shit. THere was no uproar, no tea parties, nothing. People let Bush slide. He got away with fucking murder. Murder of this country that so many white people claim to love. They allowed Bush to shit all over it. Now the fact that so many republicans are showing that they would rather see America being flushed down the toilet rather than build her back up shows you the true face of so many whites and so many conservatives. It's very sickening. They are the weak link in this country. I wish they would leave and let REAL Americans fix what we have left. Send people like Pat to Antarctica to live in the freezing cold. I think they can take it, they have ice cold blood running through their bodies anyway. Hateful evil fucking monsters.
YOu are right Brohammas about the walls between the parties and blacks and whites becoming thicker. I am in shock that so many white people are starting to feel like things are becoming unfair and that they are the victims. White people have acted like minorities especially blacks are nothing more than scum on the bottom of their shoe . Now when your pedestal is being threatend, now that you are not held in reverie because of your whiteness. You people have the nerve to turn around and act like shit isn't fair? All this time so many white people have made it seem that racism and discrimination was all in black peoples minds and made us out to be paranoid, you finally have to admit that you were being racist and discriminating all this time. How long did you think it would take before this all backfired and you'd actually have to deal with the same thing you say blacks were paranoid about? AMerica will never be the same and race relations will never improve and it's all because of white people like Pat Buchanon and people who think and feel like him.
@siditty: are you sure they all had any racism to put aside to begin with? maybe they just voted for obama because they didn't want mccain, or because they genuinely like obama, or maybe because... they didn't give a damn what race the candidate was as long as they represented the issues they cared for.
that said, pat buchanan is an idiot and that's been understood by most people for a long time. the reason he still gets air play is because the media needs sensationalist people to increase ratings.
the deal with sotomayor is a lot more complicated than pat buchanan. this blogger < http://toysoldier.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/echo-chamber-v2/ > actually makes a valid point about her comments and the aftermath.
and as for who really built this country, the honest answer is we all did, some as the oppressor and some as the oppressed, and some as the neutral bystanders who let it happen or simply didn't give a damn. i mean, howard zinn's a people's history of the united states isn't exactly an unknown book these days.
44% Voted for Obama LOL! If you look at those figures, most were college age kids. Older Whites mostly voted McCain.
Beware of the "I voted for Obama" line. I have encountered afew whites that use that line before they go ahead to slam his administration. One old friend of mine got sensitive about an innocent political remark I made and I asked him if he was Republican he was quick to tell me how he voted for Obama. When I visited his Twitter site I found that most of his buddies there were extreme right people. So beware. This is the new "I am not a racist" LOL!
As for Pat. He really showed himself here. First he slams the Republicans for not exploiting White fear with the whole Sotomayor thing. Then he goes ahead to claim that Obama could have chosen the Latina Republican that is was 'smarter' than Sotomayor. So is he or is he not for Affirmative Action?
Initally he was so KKK then Rachael checked him and he back tracked.
He does raise a genuine concern about maintaining whatever standards that need be mainitained. But the problem with the anti Affirmative action crew is that they can never see that all those picked usually meet the minimum requirements. For them a minority can never be intellectually equal to the white despite having the exact smae education. And this is at the core of their beliefs.
I have a Civil service job and among the 6 people that were hired, I had the highest score. But this is not enough to convince the likes of Buchanan. For them white skin color supercedes the intellect of a minority.
So Blacks trained to work twisce as hard as whites will get the same or even better scores and will need Affirmative Action to get in and once they do, they are still not qualified enough in the eyes of the Pats.
This is how far racism has evolved.
Blacks need to develop a serious tradition of entrepreneurship to get out of Public employment dependency. Today its the whites doing this, tomorrow it will be the Latinos then the Asians etc. It will never end.
White fear is quite something. Its sort of like Black anger, its consuming and is potentially destructive.
Recently I went to a new Grocery store in my neighborhood. Though I avoid Asian places, I was intrigued by the New Building. It is so beautifully designed and I had to go check if the inside marched the ouside. I wasn't disspointed. Anyway, the Asian sales people were friendly and were touting all sorts of things for me to try. Almost everyone was Asian, then out of the blue I saw these two white guys shopping. They looked scared and looked to me with that look of fear. I didn't think much of it until when I was checking out at the till, they came and stood right behind me to check out despite the fact that there were empty tills on both sides.
Then I realized the look they had given me was that same look as a Black person you get when you meet another Black person in a non Black environment. Its a mixture of camaradarie, relief and fear. Atleast that was my take.
This structure is a new Mall and I think what these guys saw first hand was the reality of what Asian dominance will look like in their own midst. And that must have bothered them.
If you see this thing you will definitely see what the future is going to look like and anyone non Asian would be shaken. But being Black and being used to the under dog status, I am like Whatever. Seeing me must have sort of knocked them out of their stupor by realizing that some people have lived with this sort of thing for almost all their existence.
And now this is the scary part. As whites start getting squeezed by the Asians and Middle Easterners, they may take it out more on Blacks and Hispanics.
I forgot to mention. Did Pat in that clip pander to Black Women or am I imagining things? I have to watch it again.
Well, racism is just a matter of survival to some people. They will do anything to stay alive. Everybody claims to be a victim of some injustice. A lot of these incidences are true.
Now, I'm just to the point of not caring anymore. Anonymous at 5:46 pm is right about one thing and when it comes to race and America it's never going to change. I have to say I'm supporting chaos. Human beings can't get along. It's simple physics really. As long as resources are being depleted people like Pat Buchanan and Louis Farrakhan will always separate people. They are both carbon copies. It's a brilliant strategy called divide and conquer. However, they called themselves "social critics." Siditty, I think you're an idealist wanting to fight injustice no matter where it's at.
I also think you have placed unrealistic goals for society. I might be a negative person but I don't blame you for your anger. Keep this in mind, The United States is a civilization that is collapsing as we speak. Every society is crumbling and it's called entropy. So many empires have suffered the same issues as we deal with today. Just a simple observation.
Interesting.
Seems to be a lot of hate on both sides of the issue, right here on this blog.
Perception is the key, and I won't tell you what my perception is right now.
I don't agree with Pat on his views. But believe it or not I am a white conservative. I agree with the fact that this country was built by white people but it was with the sweat tears and pain of blacks that helped it be come a great nation. In my life I have come across many ignorant racists both white and black. I feel that a majority of black and whites just want to get along and live their lives peacefully. The Pats of the world are a dying breed and are spouting their rhetoric in panic mode. I was born in 1950 and observed a lot of racist acts from both sides. It is true that things have come a long way but not far enough or fast enough. When are we all going to realize that we are all citizens of the world and that everyone has the right to exist.
To Dave and G. The hate from the white side is unfounded and has always been just out of pure evil, stupidity and ignorance. No way to justify it EVER. The hate that comes from the black side is ONLY a reaction from the relentless hate that whites have of blacks. Most blacks are always trying to embrace white people. We are not the ones struggling to get along with you. I don't know if white people don't reach out to blacks because they feel like they would be lowering themselves or if it's because they would have to see us as human beings. Once alot of white people start looking at us as human beings then you'll realize how small you really have been. You know something Dave how about not taking so much credit for the building of this country. White men and black men and women both equally put into this country. America would not be the AMerica it is today with just your input alone. I am sure you would like to think that's true. It makes you feel superior. I'm not convinced by your so called sincerity. I am sure that you'll get some sympathetic negroes in here to see your way, but not me. You just sound like a watered down Pat. As far as people like him dying out. I doubt it. Racism is still very strong. Especially when you are probably telling your kids white men are the ones who built this country and us po negroes helped a little. Yes racism is alive and well. ALot of white people want to say in one breath lets get along, but you really don't want to get to close because then you might have to give in to equality. I honestly don't believe alot of white people want that. It's unfortunate to feel that way. You and I both know it's true.
"Once alot of white people start looking at us as human beings then you'll realize how small you really have been."
Even the fact that, unlike mules, B&W biracial offspring are no less fertile than "monoracial" ones is not enough to stop some whites from comparing blacks and whites to cats & dogs rather than to dobermans & Yorkies, or to Siamese & Manx. And the type of nimrod who loves to say such things as, "You're so articulate!" and "What about the children?" will never consider blacks as anything more than subhuman and there's nothing anyone, including white scientists, can say that will change their tiny minds.
Wow.
I always wanted to painted with the widest brush possible in the blog world. It so matches the one in the chat rooms that people like to paint me with from time to time.
Thanks for making me special.
To both anonymous. As long as people harbor hate nothing will be accomplished. What you are saying is that there is no such thing as non-racist whites. Get out of the past things are changing and with attitudes like the one you display, there will never be race equality.
Dave,
Be more specific with your "Blacks are racist too" rhetoric. How have Blacks been as racist or more racist than Whites?
I can give you a whole lot of evidence of White racism - from slavery forward.
It seems that some Whites want to water down their own nasty history by saying "but you guys are racist too". Right.
Pat is a "special" guy. What makes this man so dangerous is that he is so media savvy and knows how to consistently push the right buttons while being given a wide platform on one of the major cable news networks. Now, I'm not saying that Pat should be censored, but I would like it if some other folks at MSNBC would call him on his BS when he lays down a steaming pile, while calling it punditry.
Hi Jamdown. I appreciate your point of view and I do sincerely apologize if I gave you the impression that there are as many black racists as whites. All I was trying to communicate was there are racists on both sides of the fence. I am not referring to the numbers. I am not trying apologize for the white race, because I know that what whites did to blacks in inexcusable.
I'm kind of glad Pat is open about his racism. Too many times, some white people tell black people we are paranoid about everything or we are making things up when discussing racism. My suspicion is now warranted, thanks to Pat.
No Dave there will not be race equality because you have to many white people who will fight it, by slamming affirmative action. There is undercover racism going on all the time. Don't you think blacks know after 400 years of being over here that we know what racism feels like, looks like and sounds like. We know before alot of you open your mouths. You have to know that. But maybe you don't because so many white people still think blacks are just ignorant uneducated bafoons. You say blacks are racist too, it may not be right, but you can damn sure believe as I have stated before that it is not out of feeling superior or entitled. When you say blacks are racists you sound like you don't want whites to take the brunt of the blame, when it is you to blame. It all began with you. Anyone with common sense knows that white people all over the world hold a superiority complex to anyone not white. Even subconciously. You have minorities who feel like in order to fit in and be accepted by the majority that harboring racists attitudes towards blacks will help them. I think they are idiots personally. Most whites will always feel like they are better than anyone who is not white. It sounds simple, but it's true. It would seem that if we all really did look at each other as individuals and judge on that alone we would be better off. That would be ideal. Too bad people are too caught up in race and class.
I thank Pat to Kat. I wonder if Hallmark has something fitting?

Nice try, but no where in my post(July 18, 2009 7:31 PM) did I state that "there is no such thing as non-racist whites" or anything resembling that belief. Also, your attempt at blaming the continuation of white racism on me & my "attitude" is just another tactic that defensive, white racists-in-denial love to utilize.

Wow Dave Clark, I see you follow Glenn Beck's blog? Wow. That explains it.
Hey David I was on your sit where you made a disgusting photo op of Sasha Obama. You made it appear that a little seven year old was pregnant just because you did not like people making fun of that whack job Sarah Palin's daughter. You people on the right have no boundaries to your disgusting ways. I knew your comments here were just bullshit. You follow Glenn Beck and look like Rush Limbaugh. How fitting for you.
First off there are no such pictures on, my site. I don't know where you got that from. I am not that low of a person to do something like that. Secondly, so I follow Glen Beck he is not a Republican just a conservative, and I follow him because he is funny and he not racist.
Getting back to the picture, if you can give me the link it is on I will drop it. I knew nothing about it. Everything I have said has been nothing but truthful. I sleep with a sheet over me I don't wear one with holes. Besides there blue.
Anonymous from July 19, 2009 4:43 PM.
I totally agree with you. I try to live my life in understanding all people (except my ex-wife). I believe affirmative action should be the order of the day for all people not just one race.
To Anonymous fromJuly 19, 2009 4:43 PM. Just because I follow Glen Beck does not make me a racist. It you notice I also follow Siditty.
We had better take heed to all of this vicious racists talk coming from the Republicans of late. They are not about pretending anymore and are just letting it all hang out there. I don't think that I am overreacting when I say that they have some payback in mind for blacks if they ever regain power.
Stealthkitty
Dave,
You wouldn't happen to be Dave of the Dave Clark Five ?
Pat did not say that no other groups played a part in America. He said the intellectual origins (Constitution, philosphy of natural rights, Declaration of Independence) were products of Europeans. He also stated the Battle of Gettysburg and Normandy were fought by a vast majority of whites, which is also true.
We had better take heed to all of this vicious racists talk coming from the Republicans of late. They are not about pretending anymore and are just letting it all hang out there. I don't think that I am overreacting when I say that they have some payback in mind for blacks if they ever regain power.
--------------------------------
IF THOSE FUCKERS EVER GAIN POWER BACK. WE ALL BETTER BE CAREFUL. IF YOU THINK THIS COUNTRY IS NEAR DEATH NOW, WHEN REPUBLICANS GET BACK IN THEY WILL REOFFEND EVERYONE OBAMA IS MAKING AMENDS WITH AND ONE OF THOSE NATIONS WILL TAKE CARE OF WHATS LEFT OF THE USA. REPUBLICANS DO NOT LIKE ANYONE THAT IS NOT A WHITE UPPERCLASS MAN. THEY HARDLEY TOLERATE THE WOMEN. REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN THE DOWNFALL OF THIS NATION. I HOPE PEOPLE WILL NOTICE ALL THEIR RACIST SLANDER OF MINORITIES. THEY ARE THE PARTY OF NO, HATRED, DISCRIMINATION AND EVIL. I FOR ONE AM HAPPY TO HAVE BOUGHT A GUN TO PROTECT MYSELF WHEN THESE NUTTY FOOLS GO ON THEIR RAMPAGE. I WILL NOT HESITATE TO SPLATTER GREY MATTER. I WISH THEY WOULD ALL GO AWAY. I'M SORRY BUT I JUST THINK THEY ARE SIMPLY EVIL.
I believe affirmative action should be the order of the day for all people not just one race.

For all people. White men have the upper hand already. Why the hell would they need anymore advantages. White men take advantage of everything and when you have complete power you don't give a shit about anyone else who isn't white. Give me a fucking break. That is a very selfish attitude.

Ahh,Pat Buchanan. He's been saying some ridiculous stuff lately.
Pat is a fool. I can't even believe he would actually believe this mess is true. He should read a history book before running his damn mouth.
White people built this country? ALONE??LMAO.
@Anon July 17/5:37 PM
I agree 100%

Wow, it's like you are in my mind, lol.
I've noticed ALOT of whites use the blacks are racists, too" line when we call them out on their BS.
How reactive.
Wow I promised myself I wasn't gonna have debates on affirmative action anymore but whatever. First of all the concept of Affirmative Action is not wrong, the way it is carried out is. The people who benefit from Affirmative Action are not the people who need it. Who benefits from Affirmative Action are the upper class minorities, be it Latinos, Blacks, or White Women, and that is where the problem lies. Affirmative Action is about restoring decency to a part of the population that has been left behind and oppressed, not about meeting quotas of a minority. If you are upper class and attended good schools, but you happen to have black skin (or any other "minority attribute"), that doesn't mean you deserve Affirmative Action. To say that person is oppressed is a joke and an insult to people who are really oppressed,I'm not saying that that person hasn't faced prejudices in their day to day life, but they definitely weren't oppressed or else they wouldn't have received all that schooling and made to where they are now. Affirmative Action is about helping people who are oppressed, which like Obama did say, included some white people, but I will not be ignorant here and say that white people in any way are just as oppressed as other minorities, it's not even close, it's disproportional, but there are still some white people who are oppressed, and to not see shows a lack of empathy, an understandable one coming from the history this country has with race, but still a lack of empathy. And for anyone who follows Pat Buchanan, Glenn Beck, or any of these movement conservative assholes, please read books, get educated, because you are either a rich greedy bastard, or just a dumb ignorant mother fucker. I'm gonna stop because If I continue with movement conservatism I will write a 20 page essay, so I will stop.
JDR,
Per your argument, you are under the belief racism doesn't affect those who aren't poor. That racism is gone or eradicated in higher education or the corporate environment. Upper class minorities experience racism, just like the poor and lower income minorities. It explains the wage gap between people of color vs. whites with similar education and jobs. It keeps people from being able to move up in the world. Upper class minorities get left behind all the time.
Do you think what happened to Louis Gates was a joke? Do you not think he just experienced racism? He is upper class, and I think he would think differently than you do about the fact that he can't be oppressed or suffer from racism.
My mother and father came from poverty. The no running water in the house kind of poverty. They grew up under segregation. So you re saying they have never been oppressed because they became educated and obtained employment before the advent of affirmative action?
This is why I don't have debates on public policy on the internet, it becomes back and forth essays, but I will finish what I started. Ok, I mean Education with a capital E, but whatever. I don't even mean middle class, I mean truly upper class, although there is a debate on whether middle class should be include in this, but at the rate it is shrinking it will be irrelevant. Lets take Gates as an example, first of all, if it were not for Gates' education and status this wouldn't even be news, he probably wouldn't have had the charges dropped and he would be just another black man in prison arrested by over zealous and racist police. And again I don't understand how this situation would be different if Affirmative Action was applied here to his case. I understand that he, and other upper class minorities, suffers from racism, and trust me, I know it is unfortunate and unfair, but the result of such racism as in the case of Gates is humiliation, being arrested in your home. I'm not making light of his situation, but consider his to the kids who go to school in the Cambridge Public School system, where they have a daycare in the school, not for the children of the teachers but for the children of the high school students themselves. I think the word oppressed is a strong to use in Gates' situation, humiliated or embarrassed would be more appropriate, not to make light of his situation, but as you can see he is not wrongly going to jail or being charged in this situation because of his class, pretend Gates wasn't a professor, but a janitor and see what would happen to him.
I understand where you are coming from though. From what I gather of you from your blog posts (Warning:speculation based on my perception), you are part of the middle class/ upper middle class and therefore of course your interests are going to lie there. And I know that you, and people of similar education and jobs as yours, experience racism, what I don't agree with though is that you(middle/upper class) experience racism just like poor and lower incomer minorities do. In no way do I try to invalidate your experiences which I'm sure are painful, but I see a difference in racism that hurts your soul and oppression that doesn't let you achieve your humanity. In no way am I advocating for racism of upper class minorities, or racism in the work place. If anything we need stronger laws against work place discrimination if any reform is going to be made. What I am advocating for is a gradual shift from results based Affirmative Action, to opportunity based Affirmative Action, one that is not a short term band aid that we have now, but a real long term solution so that we can address what the problems that are "ghetto school systems". A real Affirmative Action that doesn't cover up the dismal education that goes on in these schools with inflated college rates, but one that cleans up these ghetto schools, that ends the oppression that is going on in America's ghettos.
I did not say that your parents weren't oppressed, what I meant was that people who aren't oppressed usually get education, I did not mean that because you got an education you were not oppressed. By what you describe I believe that your parents were the definition of oppression that goes on in society today. The advent of Affirmative Action is an Arbitrary date, it is a man made benchmark so should have no impact at all in the decision whether they were ever oppressed or not. From your description of your parents It seems obvious to me that they were oppressed, but since achieving education they are no longer oppressed, that is not to say they are not the target of racism.
Like I said I would probably type like 20 pages if time permitted too on this topic. I hope you were not offended in any way by some of my ideas or assumptions of you I made based on your blog posts. My best wishes on your personal life, I hope everything is good.
Siddity, again you're letting your black privilege get in the way of using common sense. The Only racist is Gates. Gates deserved to get arrested. He isn't above law. Everybody knows not to answer cops back except for Gates. Gates is a typical elitist who thinks he's above the law. It was Gates who was stereotyping the white police officer. You should be ashamed of yourself for calling this guy a racist. You're a racist, not this cop. You even admitted that you're a racist. This cop is the true victim.
